Air Conditioning

We decided to add air conditioning since we will be spending the summers here, and yes, it can get warm in Milwaukee.

We selected Gross Heating and Air Conditioning for this job. They had installed the AC we had in the primary bedroom 20 years ago, and have a great reputation in the Milwaukee area.

This is the plan for the downstairs:

and this is the plan for the upstairs:

This will be two systems, one upstairs and one downstairs. It is a Unico high velocity system (the same as brother Matthew uses) so it is very flexible.

This is the first part of the construction. Mainly because we will be here this summer, and hope to enjoy the whole house, not just the master bedroom.

The crew is very professional and experienced. (the project manager installed the AC at the Charles Allis Museum, while the art was still hanging.

There was a lot of protective paper and plastic down on the floors.

The location of the air returns is just as important as the supply lines. We will have three returns upstairs, since there are several rooms that will have supply lines. Downstairs we will only have one return, as it is an open plan.

One of the returns upstairs:

One of the other returns (it will be painted)

The supply lines look like this, now. But we will paint them and probably put a square grate over them to have them conform to the house design:

There is almost nothing round in this house. or even anything at an angle (only the designs in the glass in the front bookcases).

This is the stuff they will be installing, staged in the garage. Not a small job.

It was quite foggy the other night. I will leave this here for now.
